Pre-wedding Feasts with Town's Delight

Love itself is a reason to celebrate. One great example is wedding celebrations where the couple share their joy by having fun with the people who have also taken delight in their journey as lovers.

The celebration of love is not limited to the wedding itself. Popping a celebration here and there before the big wedding day sounds like a pretty great idea.

So what should we celebrate for? Here are pre-wedding feasts you can enjoy with your significant other and people who have been part of your tale of a happily ever after.

The Engagement Party

Putting a ring on her finger is one big news, not just for the two families but for the friends, besties, and colleagues as well. The engagement party is where the couple can narrate to everyone how the groom got down on one knee and popped the most awaited question.

Aside from the story on how the groom proposed, guests are surely very eager to know when and where the wedding will take place. That is why it is important for the couple to have the answers to those questions prepared beforehand.

Also, expect some loving guests to offer a helping hand during the wedding preparation or better yet sponsor a specific need for the big day. However, prepare yourself for some guests who might have some unsolicited advice for the both of you. Just try to keep your cool while courteously saying that you have their idea "noted".

You can make the engagement party casual or a no-gift affair since there will be a lot of chances for your loved ones to shower both of you with their presents. But of course, receiving a gift is always such a pleasure.

The Pamamanhikan

If you want the engagement party to be very intimate and just with the presence of your immediate family members, then you can opt for a pamamanhikan instead.

Respect is highly emphasized in the Filipino culture and pamamanhikan is the groom and bride's way of honoring their parents.

During the pamamanhikan, the family of the groom visits the house of the bride. The groom usually brings Filipino dishes and delicacies. The two parties meet during this occasion and have a chance to plan the upcoming wedding.

This is also the groom and bride's way of asking their parents to bless their upcoming marriage.

The Bridal Shower

Bridal showers are often organized by the maid-of-honor or the bridesmaids. However, times have changed and it is now completely acceptable for a family member of the bride to organize a bridal shower.

In a bridal shower, guests shower the bride with love in the form of presents which she can use for the upcoming marriage. The gifts can also hold a significant meaning for the one who gave it to the bride.

Activities that can be done at a bridal shower can be really creative. In some traditions, the groom shows up with a bouquet of flowers for the bride. This is also a great opportunity for those who have not met the groom to actually get to know him.

Other traditions or activities at a bridal shower also include, creating a mock bouquet out of the wrappers and ribbons from the presents as well as passing on a generation-old family heirloom to the bride.

The Bachelor or Bachelorette Party

The bachelor or bachelorette party is also known as the Despedida de Soltera, a Spanish phrase that literally translates to 'farewell to singlehood'.

Usually the bachelor party is just an all-male party for the groom separate from the bachelorette party which is an all-female party for the bride.

However, it is acceptable these days to combine the two especially if the couple came from one circle of friends. It is also fine to have multiple bachelor and bachelorette parties as well.
